REVENUE DERIVED FROM MOTORISTS

Motorists who reside in the six metropolitan areas of the province of Quebec contribute to the funding of public transportation organizations by paying additional passenger vehicle registration fees, which have been set at $30 per vehicle.

In addition, since July 2011, all owners of a passenger vehicle located in the territory of the agglomeration of Montreal must pay a $45 vehicle registration tax. These revenues are intended to finance the Société de transport de Montréal. In the greater Montreal area, motorists must also pay a surcharge of 4 cents per litre of gas to fund public transit.
